Capitals/Penguins 24/7 - my take.

When HBO premiered the first episode of Caps/Pens road to the Winter Classic two things were clear to me.

1.)  The storyline couldn't have been written any better for the producers.  With the Caps on the biggest losing streak since 2007, and the Penguins on a legnthy winning streak under Coach Bylsma, it was a clear set up of Stregnth vs. Struggle.  I'm okay with that. I really enjoyed this show- all of it.  Yes I watched the Penguins footage, because why wouldn't you?  I've heard of people skipping the Pens stuff and focusing on the Caps, but that's just silly.  I see it two ways - watch and discover, like I did, that most of the Penguins team are human, and god damn it, some of them are funny... Pascal Dupuis, for example.   (I still think Crosby is a D-Bag, and his moustache makes him look like a pedophile...but I digress.)  Or the other, watch and hate them, psych yourself up for this Epic Battle that Bridgestone is pushing the hell out of.  Loathe them - Hell, you'e a Caps fan, it's been in your blood since the dawn of time, but don't skip it because it might not be interesting, it takes away from the rivalry.

2.) Reliving the losing streak with dramatic music, slow motion sequences, and behind the scenes in depth looks at the locker room during those games - SUCKS.  That's it.

I had a conversation with a parent of one of my preschoolers - also an avid Caps fan for many years.  His take on the show was that HBO was trying to make us out to be the Bad Guys.  Big bad, reckless Ovechkin vs. the focused, stable Sidney Crosby.

Oddly enough, I'm alright with being percieved as the "Bad Guys".  The Big Bad Ovechkin against Little Red Riding Crosby is hardly something to be worried about.  In fact, it will make that all the sweeter when we win.

And we are going to win.
