Composer of the Week: James Horner #1

Welcome to the first edition of Movie Composer of the week!  My first choice:  James Horner.

You may also know James Horner from such movie soundtracks as Titanic, Glory, Field of Dreams, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, Apollo 13, Batteries Not Included, An American Tail, and most recently, Avatar.  But the list doesn't stop there!  I just researched his name to see if I had missed any, and the list went on for pages.  In fact, he has so many that I think I will do a James Horner Series.  I might even go as far as to list him as my number one composer.

Today's featured soundtrack however, is probably one of my most favorite movie soundtracks in my collection; Braveheart.  The following link is a Youtube compilation I found, showcasing some of the best music from the movie.  Please, take a listen :)

Braveheart

I think anyone with some sort of Scottish blood will find this music calls to them...or maybe if you're just a Scots-o-phile and love a hearty bagpipe, but it certainly calls to me! I am also of the belief that the music can make or break a movie, and for me, it's one of the most poingnant aspects of the movie.

James horner has been nominated for so many Oscars, Golden Globes and other awards for his music I lost count, including a win for Titanic.

Final Braveheart Scene

I tell you, my Scottish Pride never welled up as badly as it did during this moment of the film.  Mainly due to Horner's orchestrations.  Enjoy the music! :D
