I will admit right off the bat that no, I have never been to Scotland in my life. But I am completely obsessed over it. And I mean completely.
I love listening to the dialect, in fact I've tried to find anyone with software to teach Scots Gaelic. (So, hey! *tap, tap* If you're reading this and know of any, please let me know!)
I have spent hours, and hours and hours looking at pictures and researching different castles- including one that was supposedly offered to my Grandfather as a child- one left by our ancestors. Braemar Castle to be specific I have looked at different places I would concider staying when the time comes to plan my trip, and I have at least 3 pages of things I can't wait to do.
Bagpipes for me are one of the most beautiful types of music (when you know how to play them, of course- haha.) and you can ask just about anyone in my friend circle- I have many cds and love many celtic groups. I even get emotional sometimes listening. (Which also, if you know me, is really not difficult at all.) My Dad is convinced it's because of the Scottish blood, but who knows. I do have a lot of Irish as well!
I'm looking for people that have taken trips there that could offer recommendations as to things they really enjoyed doing, so I can add them (or cross them off) of the list. Here is what I have so far!
Castles to See:
Braemar
Edinburgh
Kilchurn
Cawdor
Eilean Donan
Places and things:
*Bannockburn, Stirling and the Wallace Monument
*St. Andrew's
*The Highlands- ANYWHERE. lol
*Lochness
*Glasgow
*Oban
*The Isle of Skye
*Glencoe
*Steal Falls
*Iona
*Ride the Fort William to Mallaig train over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
*I am not, nor have I ever been a Whiskey person..but you kind of have to have some in Scotland...It's like going to Ireland and not having a pint!
I realize that this is probably enough for three trips so far. Well, I suppose I will remedy that by going on multiple trips. :D
Take Care, and if you have any more suggestions, you can email me at Semisilver@aol.com
